Before MobilityWorks began working with Rhythm, they were “overeating from the buffet of opportunities”—as Rhythm CEO Patrick Thean puts it. They struggled to say “no” to new projects, resulting in strained bandwidth and many goals never reaching completion.
“We would start projects and then we would start other ones, not being able to really hone in on what we should do as a company,” shared Angelica DelBaso, Strategic Plan Coordinator.
They needed help paring down their priorities and focusing on the highest-impact opportunities. They also needed a way to break down big projects into manageable milestones.
When it came to collaboration, MobilityWorks’ departments were regularly operating in silos. A lack of communication and alignment around cross-functional dependencies repeatedly cost them time, money, and opportunities.
It was time for a new framework.
When Rhythm began facilitating MobilityWorks’ planning sessions, focus was top of mind. The team was guided through crucial conversations until they reached agreement on their top 3-5 priorities for the year. They then broke down these longer-term projects into digestible quarter priorities.
Setting each goal involved making commitments: success criteria was defined in detail, start and end dates were determined, and one person was ultimately responsible for owning the goal.
Each week, the team reviewed their priorities at their Adjustment Meeting, honing in on stuck goals that needed collaborative problem-solving. As they embraced these new rhythms, the team’s discipline increased: They focused on accomplishing their current commitments and parked other project ideas until the next planning meeting.
As multiple departments worked together to support high-level company goals, they used comments and notifications to keep each other up-to-date. With visibility into the company plan and other teams’ goals, departments achieved alignment and collaborated more effectively.
With a disciplined framework of planning and execution, MobilityWorks has committed to and accomplished a focused list of high-impact priorities quarter after quarter. This has enabled them to seriously expand their business.
